A Safer Spaces Guide aims to foster an environment of respect which makes ALL participants feel welcome. Differing opinions and perspectives are crucial to effective discussion, but all attendees ultimately take responsibility for their own speech and behaviour – in person, and on social media – throughout the entire event and associated social gatherings. The tabletop game design should also aim to embody the same spirit.
Attendees are encouraged to:
- Display consideration, kindness and responsibility in their dealings with other persons.
- Ask respectful questions and avoid dominating a teammate’s question time to further any particular agenda.
- Not presume people’s pronouns. We encourage all participants to display their pronouns do so, even those who do not worry about being misgendered.
- Be mindful of and understand how different aspects of our identity (not just gender and sexual identity) shape our lived experiences.
All game jam participants are expected to be considerate, mindful, and respectful of other attendees’ safety, and refer any concerns to the conference committee.
If someone is making you feel uncomfortable, if you see that someone else is being made to feel unsafe, or if you have any other concerns, please inform the organisers.
You may do this via direct messaging on Microsoft Teams (i.e., to the organisers or mentors) or via email to ncu_comms@nus.edu.sg. Our representatives will be happy to assist you with action, the provision of security or appropriate next steps. All communication related to this policy will be dealt with in confidence.
